Be kind, friendly and supportive

VOY is a community. We expect everyone to treat each other with kindness, respect and encouragement. No cliques, no egos, no making anyone feel left out. If someone needs a hand, we help.

Racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, ableism or any other form of discrimination or harassment will not be tolerated.

Attendance

We expect between 80% and 100% attendance from VOY members. Regular attendance helps us learn songs together, sound our best, and be ready for performances.

We know life happens — holidays, illness, family and work can get in the way. Please let us know as soon as you can when you can’t make a session so we can plan around you.

If attendance becomes a persistent problem, we reserve the right to ask someone to leave the choir.

Payment

Payment for each block is due strictly one week in advance of the block starting. Sessions are £8 each and are paid for as a short block, usually 5 or 6 weeks.

We are flexible: if you know in advance that you can’t attend certain sessions, you don’t need to pay for those weeks. Just let us know before the payment deadline.

Payments are cash only, in a named envelope. We do not offer refunds for last-minute cancellations.

Use your position wisely

Being part of VOY means you are trusted as part of the community. Please don’t use your membership to promote personal businesses, events or causes without checking with Nick or Sally first, and never put anyone in an awkward position because they are a fellow member.

Practice tracks are for members only

The vocal parts, backing tracks, lyrics and any other rehearsal materials in the members’ area are for your own personal practice. They belong to Voices of Yorkshire and must not be shared with anyone outside the choir, posted online, or passed to non-members.

Photos and videos

We love sharing photos and videos from rehearsals, gigs and events. By being part of Voices of Yorkshire, you agree that photos and videos taken at VOY events may be used on our website, social media, newsletters and promotional materials.

If you ever want a particular photo or video of you removed, just ask Nick or Sally and we’ll take it down.
